HASRIMOTO, K. and KOKUBUN, H. Interaction between Adenosine Compounds and Norepinephrine in Dog Renal Circulation. Tohoku J. exp. Med., 1972, 107 (4), 373-380 -Drugs were administered to anesthetized dogs directly into the left renal artery perfused with animal's own blood at a constant pressure. A single injection of adenosine caused prompt renal vasoconstriction, while an infusion of adenosine caused initial vasoconstriction which recovered to the control level even though infusion was continued. The vasoconstriction caused by a single injection of adenosine was not only depressed but also reverted to vasodilation during infusion of adenosine in its concentration from 8•~10-9 to 8•~10-6g/ml in the perfused blood (self-inhibition), while norepinephrine-induced vasoconstriction was significantly enhanced in the concentration as low as 3•~ 10-9g/ml of adenosine. The vasoconstriction caused by stimulation of renal

The renal rheoplethysmogram of the dog.

The renal circulation of the dog was studied by a rheoplethysmographic method capuble of simultaneously recording the time courses of volume, rate, and acceleration of inflow, outflow and difference between inflow and outflow of blood. The studies were done first under control conditions and then under conditions of relatively acute circulatory change induced by intravenous injection of norepin...

Effects of chronic digitalization on cardiac and renal Na+ + K+-dependent adenosine triphosphate activity and circulating catecholamines in the dog.

To extend our understanding of the mechanism of action of digitalis drugs, we studied electrocardiograms (ECGs), renal function, plasma concentrations of catecholamines, and myocardial and renal Na+ + K+-dependent adenosine triphosphate (Na+ + K+ ATPase) activity in chronically digitalized dogs. Five healthy, male, mongrel dogs received a therapeutic regimen of digoxin (0.1 mg/kg on day 1 in th...

The role of high-energy phosphate in norepinephrine-induced acute renal failure in the dog.

Previous studies have demonstrated that pretreatment with mannitol, furosemide, or bradykinin can attenuate the severity of norepinephrine-induced renal functional impairment. The present studies were designed to evaluate the possibility that these agents are protective, in part, by preserving cellular metabolic integrity. The renal cortex was repetitively biopsied during the course of this stu...

Antagonistic effects of theophylline and adenosine on adrenergic neuroeffector transmission in the rabbit kidney.

The actions of adenosine and theophylline on adrenergic neuroeffector transmission were studied in the rabbit kidney perfused with Tyrode's solution in which the norepinephrine stores had been labeled with (-)-norepinephrine[3H] ((-)-NE[3H]). We found that adenosine inhibited (-)-NE[3H] release induced by nerve stimulation, increased basal perfusion pressure, and enhanced the vasoconstrictor re...
